Speaker Bio
Astrid Allen is a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute for Employment Studies (IES). Astrid brings 25 years of experience of delivering research, evaluation, project management and strategic leadership on skills, economic and cultural development initiatives. She is passionate about the ‘good work’ agenda, meeting the needs of businesses as well as the individuals working for them and has a particular interest in flexible working and high-performance working practices, regularly blogging on the latest issues.

Astrid’s recent work includes ‘Flexible working for all’, a multi-year project (working with Timewise, Wickes, Sir Robert McAlpine and the NHS) to evidence the impact of flexible working among frontline and site-based workers in retail, construction and healthcare.

Astrid has delivered a flexible working review for the South East London Integrated Care System, involving focus group consultations across four NHS Trusts. She has also evaluated an initiative to enable more ReStart participants to access flexible working from day one (ReStart is a government led programme to support people out of long-term unemployment).

Currently, Astrid is project managing research for The Office Group exploring autonomy and work styles and leading a project on ‘unbound working’ on behalf of the IES HR Network.
